The President, members of the Cabinet, various officials of the Federal
Government, and the officials of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad were invited to
inspect the train before its departure. On the morning of May 1, prominent
Government and railroad officials gathered at the Union Station for the occasion.
The Government party included the President and Mrs. Wilson ; Hon. Robert
Lansing, Secretary of State ; Byron R. Newton, Assistant Secretary, Department of
the Treasury; Hon.
