3D Nanoelectronic Computer Architecture and Implementation

It is becoming increasingly clear that the two-dimensional layout of devices on computer chips hinders the development of high-performance computer systems. Three-dimensional structures will be needed to provide the performance required to implement computationally intensive tasks. 3-D Nanoelectronic Computer Architecture and Implementation reviews the state of the art in nanoelectronic device design and fabrication and discusses the architectural aspects of 3-D designs, including the possible use of molecular wiring and carbon nanotube interconnections. This is a valuable reference for those involved in the design and development of nanoelectronic devices and technology.

ISCA 2010 International Workshops A4MMC, AMAS-BT, EAMA, WEED, WIOSCA, Saint-Malo, France, June 19-23, 2010, Revised Selected Papers

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the workshops held at the 37th International Symposium on Computer Architecture, ISCA 2010, in Saint-Malo, France, in June 2010. The 28 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from the lectures given at 5 of these workshops. The papers address topics ranging from novel memory architectures to emerging application design and performance analysis and encompassed the following workshops: A4MMC, applications for multi- and many-cores; AMAS-BT, 3rd workshop on architectural and micro-architectural support for binary translation; EAMA, the 3rd Workshop for emerging applications and many-core architectures; WEED, 2nd Workshop on energy efficient design, as well as WIOSCA, the annual workshop on the interaction between operating systems and computer architecture.

This workshop aims to bring together application domain experts and computer
architects to discuss emerging applications as well as their implications on
current- and next-generation many-core architectures. There has always been a

Functional Programming Languages and Computer Architecture

5th ACM Conference. Cambridge, MA, USA, August 26-30, 1991 Proceedings

This book is the proceedings of a conference on functional programming. Topics include type inference, novel ways to exploit type information, partial evaluation, handling states in functional languages, and high-performance implementations.

In the recent years many compilation techniques have been presented, mostly
with the aid of some abstract machine architecture. However, relatively little
attention was spent on the methods to implement such an abstract machine (and

Parallel Computer Architecture

A Hardware/software Approach

This book outlines a set of issues that are critical to all of parallel architecture--communication latency, communication bandwidth, and coordination of cooperative work (across modern designs). It describes the set of techniques available in hardware and in software to address each issues and explore how the various techniques interact.

We will see how decisions made in different steps of the programming process
affect the run-time characteristics presented to the architecture, as well as how
the characteristics of the architecture influence programming decisions.

Computer Architecture

Fundamentals and Principles of Computer Design

Future computing professionals must become familiar with historical computer architectures because many of the same or similar techniques are still being used and may persist well into the future. Computer Architecture: Fundamentals and Principles of Computer Design discusses the fundamental principles of computer design and performance enhancement that have proven effective and demonstrates how current trends in architecture and implementation rely on these principles while expanding upon them or applying them in new ways. Rather than focusing on a particular type of machine, this textbook explains concepts and techniques via examples drawn from various architectures and implementations. When necessary, the author creates simplified examples that clearly explain architectural and implementation features used across many computing platforms. Following an introduction that discusses the difference between architecture and implementation and how they relate, the next four chapters cover the architecture of traditional, single-processor systems that are still, after 60 years, the most widely used computing machines. The final two chapters explore approaches to adopt when single-processor systems do not reach desired levels of performance or are not suited for intended applications. Topics include parallel systems, major classifications of architectures, and characteristics of unconventional systems of the past, present, and future. This textbook provides students with a thorough grounding in what constitutes high performance and how to measure it, as well as a full familiarity in the fundamentals needed to make systems perform better. This knowledge enables them to understand and evaluate the many new systems they will encounter throughout their professional careers.

“Computer architecture” is not the use of computers to design buildings (though
that is one of many useful applications of computers). Rather, computer
architecture is the design of computer systems, including all of their major
subsystems: the ...
