Supply Chain Management

Strategy, Planning, and Operation

For MBA or senior level undergraduate supply chain management courses. A Strategic Framework for Understanding Supply Chain Management Borne from a course on supply chain management taught at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management, Supply Chain Management introduces high-level strategy and concepts while giving students the practical tools necessary to solve supply chain problems. The Sixth Edition weaves in compelling case study examples, providing students with clear insight into how good supply chain management offers a competitive advantage. On the flip side, students also learn the dangers of poor supply chain management, and how it can damage an organization's overall health and performance. Using a strategic framework, students are guided through all of the key drivers of supply chain performance, including facilities, inventory, transportation, information, sourcing, and pricing. By the end of the course, students will walk away with a deep understanding of supply chains and a firm grasp on the practical managerial levers to pull in order to improve supply chain performance.

Stability of Tropical Rainforest Margins

Linking Ecological, Economic and Social Constraints of Land Use and Conservation

Tropical rainforests are disappearing at an alarming rate, causing unprecedented losses in biodiversity and ecosystem services. This book contributes to an improved understanding of the processes that have destabilizing effects on ecological and socio-economic systems of tropical rain forest margins, as well as striving to integrate environmental, technological and socio-economic issues in their solution.

Heavy Metals in the Environment

A successful modern heavy metal control program for any industry will include not only traditional water pollution control, but also air pollution control, soil conservation, site remediation, groundwater protection, public health management, solid waste disposal, and combined industrial-municipal heavy metal waste management. In fact, it should be a total environmental control program. Comprehensive in scope, Heavy Metals in the Environment provides technical and economical information on the development of a feasible total heavy metal control program that can benefit industry and local municipalities. The book discusses the importance and contamination of metals such as lead, chromium, cadmium, zinc, copper, nickel, iron, and mercury. It covers important research of metals in the environment, the processes and mechanisms for metals control and removal, the environmental behavior and effects of engineered metal and metal oxide nanoparticles, environmental geochemistry of high arsenic aquifer systems, nano-technology applications in metal ion adsorption, biosorption of metals, and heavy metal removal by expopolysaccharide-producing cyanobacteria. The authors delineate technologies for metals treatment and management, metal bearing effluents, metal-contaminated solid wastes, metal finishing industry wastes and brownfield sites, and arsenic-contaminated groundwater streams. They also discuss control, treatment, and management of metal emissions from motor vehicles. The authors reflect the breadth of the field and draw on personal experiences to provide an in-depth presentation of environmental pollution sources, waste characteristics, control technologies, management strategies, facility innovations, process alternatives, costs, case histories, effluent standards, and future trends for each industrial or commercial operation. The methodologies and technologies discussed are directly applicable to the waste management problems that must be met in all industries.

The Subtle Body

An Encyclopedia of Your Energetic Anatomy

Welcome to the first comprehensive encyclopedia of the human energetic anatomy. Here is a reference that no personal or professional health-care library should be without—an in-depth, illustrated guide to the invisible energies of the spirit, psyche, and consciousness that influence every aspect of our well-being. Whether you are looking for the right complementary medicine to enhance your own healing practice, seeking perennial wisdom about your body’s energetic nature from world traditions, or exploring the quantum edge of intention-based care, The Subtle Body is an indispensible companion for exploring virtually any facet of holistic healing. Created for healing professionals and patients alike, this volume provides a lexicon of terms, illustrations, and detailed entries about our energetic biology and how it relates to our physical being. This invaluable information will help you enhance any form of health care and give you the knowledge you need to develop an integrated approach for your clients’ well-being—or your own. All healers are "energetic" healers, whether they know it or not. Because every health issue has a physical and an energetic component, even a simple physical treatment like bandaging a cut also impacts the body's spiritual, mental, and emotional welfare. The Subtle Body is a comprehensive encyclopedia devoted to the critical world of our invisible anatomy, where so much of healing actually occurs. Compiled by intuitive healer and scholar Cyndi Dale, this 500-page full color illustrated reference book covers: What is the "subtle body"? New scientific understanding of our quantum-state existence and the unseen fields that determine our physical condition True integrative care: how combining Eastern energetic modalities with Western scientific rigor yields optimum results The meridians, fields, and chakras: detailed information and diagrams about the role of these energetic structures in our overall health Energy-based therapy principles from the world's healing traditions--including Ayurveda, Qigong, Reiki, Quabalah, and many more For professionals who want to make the leap from being good healers to great ones, one thing is clear: we need to care for every facet of our well-being. With The Subtle Body, practitioners and patients alike now have an unprecedented resource for understanding the physical, energetic, and spiritual elements of human health--for an informed, complete approach to healing.

Introduction to Intelligent Simulation: The RAO Language

Introduction to Intelligent Simulation of Complex Discrete Systems and Processes: RAO Language focuses on a unique approach in modeling and simulation of complex systems. In this volume are considered features of complex systems and processes, their mathematical description, and modeling. Theoretical foundations of the RAO (Resource-Action-Operation) language as well as its syntax and utilisation are given. Examples of simulation models of different complexity levels, related to different fields, are also presented. The RAO intelligent modeling system, introduced and described in Introduction to Intelligent Simulation of Complex Discrete Systems and Processes is unique because: (1) it makes simulation modeling universal for the classes of systems and processes modeled; (2) it is simple to modify the models; and (3) it has the capacity to model complex control systems together with the object controlled (including simulation modeling for on-line control). The RAO tool allows the user to use a language very similar to his professional language and rids him of intermediary, supplementary description of the system modeled. In fifteen chapters this volume provides an overview of general modeling trends, and hence serves the research community in guiding their modeling methods; intelligent simulation modeling is introduced to solve complex systems and processes.

Another problem with simulation is that it (a) is time-consuming / (b) involves a lot
