Modelling and Simulation

Exploring Dynamic System Behaviour

This textbook presents a practical introduction to the fundamental aspects of modelling and simulation. It provides the necessary foundations both for those wishing to learn about this methodology and also for those who have a need to apply it in their work. Illustrative examples are drawn from projects formulated within the domains of both DEDS and CTDS. Features: presents a project-oriented perspective; describes an activity-based conceptual modelling framework (ABCmod) for DEDS; includes a new chapter that presents a novel world view, the Activity-Object world view, which eases the translation of a conceptual model specification in the ABCmod framework into a simulation program; contains numerous illustrative examples, useful algorithms, exercises and projects; includes a primer on probability, a concise guide to the GPSS programming environment and an overview of relevant MATLAB features in the appendices; provides supplementary software and teaching support material at an associated website.

Simulation Using ProModel

Simulation Using ProModel covers the art and science of simulation in general and the use of ProModel simulation software in particular. The text blends theory with practice. Actual applications in business, services and manufacturing and a hands-on approach to simulation, including real-world simulation projects, are emphasized. The third edition of Simulation Using ProModel reflects the most recent version of the ProModel software in all the examples and labs as well as expanded coverage on generating random variates and design of experiments. Additionally, the lead author is founder and Chief Technology Advisor for ProModel Corporation.

Methods of Optimization and Systems Analysis for Problems of Transcomputational Complexity

This work presents lines of investigation and scientific achievements of the Ukrainian school of optimization theory and adjacent disciplines. These include the development of approaches to mathematical theories, methodologies, methods, and application systems for the solution of applied problems in economy, finances, energy saving, agriculture, biology, genetics, environmental protection, hardware and software engineering, information protection, decision making, pattern recognition, self-adapting control of complicated objects, personnel training, etc. The methods developed include sequential analysis of variants, nondifferential optimization, stochastic optimization, discrete optimization, mathematical modeling, econometric modeling, solution of extremum problems on graphs, construction of discrete images and combinatorial recognition, etc. Some of these methods became well known in the world's mathematical community and are now known as classic methods.

Signals and Systems Analysis In Biomedical Engineering, Second Edition

The first edition of this text, based on the author’s 30 years of teaching and research on neurosensory systems, helped biomedical engineering students and professionals strengthen their skills in the common network of applied mathematics that ties together the diverse disciplines that comprise this field. Updated and revised to include new material as the field has grown, Signals and Systems Analysis in Biomedical Engineering, Second Edition continues to provide a ready source of information on those specialized mathematical techniques most useful in describing and analyzing biomedical signals. New chapters on nonlinear and complex systems Enriched with many examples that promote sound practical analysis, this volume covers classical linear systems theory and its applications to biomedicine. It examines the important use of joint time-frequency analysis to characterize non-stationary physiological signals, and explores the mathematics of tomographic imaging (the Radon transform, the Fourier slice theorem, and the filtered back-projection algorithm). It also describes the analytical signal and the Hilbert transform and some of its biomedical applications. New chapters in this edition include one on the analysis of nonlinear biochemical systems and biochemical oscillators, as well as one introducing complex systems and illustrating ways to best model them. Four appendices with additional material Extensive appendices supplement the text, including "Simnon® Programs Used in Chapters 11 and 12," "How to use Root Locus to Determine the Stability of SISO Linear Systems," "Signal Flow Graphs and Mason’s Rule," and "Computational Tools for Biomedical Signal Processing and Systems Analysis." An extensive glossary is included as well as an ample listing of sources for further study. A solutions manual is available for instructors wishing to convert this refrence to classroom use.
