Strategies and Conditions for Community-based School Reform: An Analysis

Schools in the United States face mounting challenges in maintaining quality, as resources from government bodies such as funding continually decrease. Community organizing is one way that these communities can enact positive change and accountability in their local schools. This thesis analyzes published case studies that document successful community-based school reform efforts. I delineate three strategies community actors employ to make their efforts successful. In a further step of analysis, I examine how particular strategies proved particularly conducive to the enabling conditions apparent in the communities in which they were pursued.

This chapter examines the strategies of success discerned in the course of a
comparative analysis of six case studies in current literature. Examination of
these strategies led me to classify the case studies according to three categories

From Housewives to Environmental Activists: A Cultural Historical Activity Theory Analysis of Learning in a Korean Community-based Organization

Through the CHAT analysis of the community-based learning, finally, I was able to find that it has an important implication for adult education; what people informally learn in everyday life or every place such as the workplace, the home, and the community could be articulated by the connection with the collective activity of human being.

As qualitative research is not a linear but iterative process, moreover, data
analysis is not the last phase of the research process following data collection. “

Analysis of vertebrate predator-prey community

Studies within the European Forest zone in terrains with transitional mixed forest in Belarus

This monograph is about predation in vertebrate animal community. The studies were done in the seminatural terrains with transitional mixed forest within the European forest zone in Belarus. The result part was organised as a top-down flow: First, the community characteristics related to predators were estimated. I presented data on predator species richness, population density and biomass with special attention paid to the changes in predator species diversity occurred during the last two centuries and particularly in connection with the American mink and raccoon dog naturalization. Then, the main features of predator food niches were given, and the structure of various predator guilds and size structure in predators were analysed. The next part of the monograph was devoted to examining of community-important factors acting in semi-natural terrains. Such factors affected either the whole community or its marked fragment. The last quite a large part of the monograph consisted of many chapters which present more or less essential results on different predator species, and stresses hot questions of their population ecology.

Cost-effectiveness Analysis of a 2-stage Community-based Hepatocellular Carcinoma Screening Program in Taiwan

This study aims to investigate (1) whether the HCC screening program can prolong survival period of the high risk group, (2) what is the incremental cost-effectiveness ratio of the HCC screening program in Taiwan, as compared with a non-screening strategy from the payer perspective, (3) which high risk group has the lowest ICER for the HCC screening program from the insurer's perspective, in comparison with no screening strategy of each group, and (4) the estimated total cost of providing the HCC screening program to all high risk groups.

Sensitivity Analysis One-way deterministic sensitivity analysis was calculated on
the following parameters: inflation rate, screening compliance rate of each group,
probability of ablative treatment, and each mortality rate of surgical treatment.

Elements of Successful Community College Organizational Change: A Meta-ethnographic Analysis

This meta-ethnographic study examined the processes of transformational change in four community colleges. The purpose of this study was to discover how to achieve successful, transformational organizational change in the community college. There are a number of change models in existence that assist in informing college of methodologies that might be used. While the models explain change processes in general, what organizational change has been implemented successfully and how that change effort was effective is less well documented, particularly in the community college environment. This study sought to synthesize the methods used by four community colleges in achieving successful change, with emphasis on what was changed and the processes used. The methodology employed was a meta-ethnographic analysis of existing case studies of organizational change, which included the phases of case selection, case translation, and synthesis to identify common emergent themes. Findings suggested that change strategies recommended by the experts (Bridges, 1991; Carter & Alfred, 1999; Drapeau, 2002, Eddy, 2002; Fullan, 2001; Kanter, 2000; Kezar & Eckel, 2002; Kotter, 1996) were effective, although increased emphasis on the uniqueness of the organization, relationship quality and use of integrative strategies was noted in these cases. Further, it was recommended that community colleges employ an integrative, relational and contextual approach to change, utilizing strategies such as: (a) build trusting relationships which form a solid foundation for change, (b) generate clarity of vision for unified direction, (c) develop change expertise to lead change, (d) employ interactive communication strategies to build followership, (e) create capacity through professional development, (f) act to align structures, procedures and systems with intentionality, (g) attend to culture for sustainability, and (h) integrate strategies visibly for successful change.
