Pesantren Daarut Tauhid

This book presents a case study of the Pesantren Daarut Tauhiid (DT) in Bandung West Java, which represents an emerging trend in recent years in Indonesia, that is the growing popularity of what we refer to here as the 'virtual pesantren'. Employing such a term in relation to the pesantren tradition - a tradition that has existed in Indonesia for many centuries - probably indicates the changing nature of the tradition. Additionally, since there is no formal requirement to be accepted for study in the pesantren, santris often come from a variety of socio cultural backgrounds. In fact, the cyber model stresses diversity and integration rather than uniformity and fragmentation. Pesantren DT, is a model of a newly-developed virtual pesantren, even though the elements of a traditional pesantren setting still remain. Accordingly, both elements will be examined in this work. This book should be especially useful to academicians or anyone else who may be interesting in understanding the tradition and the growing nature of Islamic academic institutions particularly in Indonesia, and their relations with the issues of global social changes.

Fastening Technology in Construction for Sustainability Through Bim

Building Information Modeling has revolutionized the field of Construction in variety of ways. The authors of this book have delineated the usefulness of exploiting BIM throughout the whole life cycle of construction. Different types of BIM software were employed so as to facilitate the project, and more importantly, enhance the accuracy of work. The methods used in this book would be very beneficial for both academicians and project managers.

School-Based Management as School Reform

An Indonesian Prespective

Economic crisis in 1997 constitutes the remark of the school reform in Indonesia. The idea of school-based management (SBM), indicated as school reform, has been implemented in Western countries since 1970s and has been under unceasing debate among international scholars. Some agree; while some others do not. The Government of Indonesia (GOI), however, still implemented SBM in 2000s and Indonesians seem to agree with it, which is indicated by the limited or even an absence of debate over this concept in Indonesia. This research aims at investigating two main things, they are: the reasons underlying the implementation of SBM throughout Indonesia and the implementation processes of SBM in Indonesia. In fact, SBM in Indonesia leads to ambivalence since it morally contradicts to Indonesian values. However, Indonesians keep on tending not to contend against the idea of SBM. Furthermore, SBM policy in Indonesia is ideologically driven by Neoliberalism - an ideology which is completely different from Pancasila as Indonesian ideology. What a fantastic finding!

Development Induced Displacement and the Indigenous Societies in India

The concept of development-induced-displacement is not new in Indian context. However, the topic has received wider academic and policy attentions in the past three decades in the country. Researchers argue that both women and men experience the development process and its positive and negative outcomes differently whereas the policy concentration is on the formulation of an egalitarian development programme for all sections of India. This dissertation analyses the differential DID impacts on both men and women of indigenous communities and the existing gaps in the Indian Government s rehabilitation and resettlement programmes. Why and how the indigenous community is different from others and why does DID impacts their lives and livelihoods differently has been discussed throughout this work.

Data Mining

Innovative and Efficient Techniques

Data mining is the process of automatically extracting new and useful knowledge hidden in large datasets. This book focuses on the enhancement of following three data mining techniques for achieving the better mining results: Association Rule Mining (ARM), Clustering Classification In Association Rule Mining (ARM), two algorithms known as Apriori algorithm and FP-Growth algorithm have been enhanced for better mining results. An efficient partitional clustering algorithm utilizing the well-known technique, k-means clustering is proposed in this book to tackle the problem of empty clusters. Classification operation usually uses supervised learning methods that induce a classification model from a database. The k-Nearest Neighbor (k-NN) is one of the simplest classification methods used in data mining and machine learning. in this book, the proposed algorithm improved the performance of conventional k-NN algorithm by identifying the optimal value of k."

Implementation Of Authentication In E-Governance-an Uml Based Approach

In this scholarly monograph the authors have discussed the various vulnerabilities, which a E-Governance mechanism suffers in a hostile environment and the necessity of implementation of security services using digital signature algorithm for the authentication of the users in a realistic manner. Hence, a E-Governance model using a multivariate electronic smart card have been proposed through Unified Modeling Language (UML) based approach using object orientation of RSA and ECDSA digital signature algorithms.

A Study of Heavy Metal Contamination in Roadside Soil and Vegetables

Environmental pollution of soil, plants and deposits around highways endanger urban environment through heavy metals as the byproducts of vehicles and urban industries along with other pollutants.Due to a slow traffic movement and long stops, tires undergo comparatively more abrasion due to repeated brakes and this intensifies, zinc discharge and lead releases from automobile fuels, all of which are being factors that increase the metal contents of runoffs of roads. The transport pathways and effects of these heavy metals depend on arrange of physical and chemical properties including pollutant concentration, the size spectrum of heavy metal containing particles and the chemical form in which the metals occur. In the present study we have seen the effects of heavy metals on roadside soil quality and plant nutrition in Agra District (The City of TAJ MAHAL). The values of the heavy metals have been compared with results found by other investigators in various countries worldwide.

Brunei Darussalam - Challenges for Economic Diversification

Economic Diversification Within the Context of National Development Planning in Brunei

The book is an ambitious attempt to answer important questions for resource dependent countries in general and Brunei in particular regarding the role and effectiveness of national planning in the drive for economic diversification. It reviews the history of economic planning in Brunei from the First National Development Plan to the present one. Economic planning should bring forward dynamics of change and help provide a clear direction to government policies and expenditure programs and initiate effective measures to set in motion the required structural and institutional changes to enable both the government and the private sector to make their full contribution. The book also contains extensive case studies on other resource dependent countries' experiences and applies statistical techniques to relevant data in an attempt to measure the extent of Dutch Disease in Brunei. This is an original research and as such it makes a significant contribution to the understanding of the resource curse, or Dutch Disease, phenomenon. The book gives an extensive literature review of Dutch Disease.

F-I-S-Ht

Fingerprint Image Segmentation Using Hierarchical Technique

F-I-S-Ht is a wonderful discovery on human biometric. Fingerprints are the ridge and furrow patterns on the tip of the finger and its verification is an important biometric technique for personal identification. The quality of the fingerprint image is the most significant factor in a reliable matching process. Thus, any pre- processing algorithm should aim to enhance the quality of the existing features without creating false features. This scenario brings the idea of the research. The research focus on the segmentation approach in pre-processing images. The purpose of the study is to identify a segmentation approach of fingerprint image by considering several approaches namely Hierarchical technique and Region growing by pixel aggregation technique. The process is vital when to apply next pre-processing stages i.e. thinning, identifying between true and false minutiae and minutiae extraction process. The research is supported by 50 samples of data that is collected through an available fingerprint device.

IPv6 Routing

A Practitioner Approach

This guide helps the readers to understand the next generation IP routing (IPv6 Routing) configuration step-by-step with LAB scenarios. There are two methods to configure IP routing. One is manually and second is dynamically. Manually is fixed but dynamically is done by the different routing protocols. This guide covers both manually and dynamically methods with different scenarios. The future is next generation IP Routing.
